Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does my Scout have to have the Shotgun Merit Badge to participate?

No. While there is no requirement to have completed the Merit Badge, this may not be the best event for youth that have zero shotgun experience.

2. Is there an age requirement for participants?

No. All youth who are registered in a Scouts BSA Troop, Venturing Crew, Sea Scout Ship, or Exploring Post are eligible to participate.

3. Is this a tournament/competitive event?

This is NOT a competitive event. This event is designed to give Scouts an opportunity to learn about and participate in a Sporting Clays event. Participants will be allowed to keep score on a provided team score sheet, and additional door prize tickets will be awarded based on the number of hit clays.

4. What equipment do I need to bring?

All firearms, ammunition, and hearing and eye protection will be provided. Each Scout will need a water bottle, sunscreen, and depending on weather- raingear. This is an outdoor only even; please be prepared for such.

5. What should we wear?

Please wear your uniform. Closed toed shoes are required.

6. Can my Scouts bring their own firearm?

No personal firearms are allowed on Circle Ten Council ranges.

7. Can I bring my Cub Scout Pack?

No. Shotguns are not an approved activity for Cub Scouts in BSA.

8. What constitutes a team?

A team consists of 2 Adult Leaders (who act as chaperones and do not shoot in the event) and 4 youth shooters. Note: If your unit has both a Boy Troop and Girl Troop and you do not have enough Scouts from your unit to attend – you can register with Scouts from the two units to make a full team.

9. How long should I expect to be at the event?

Each flight should take approximately 4 hours from arrival to departure, including time to participate in the closing event.
